Background

After earning his degree in architecture at the Newschool of Architecture + Design, Jimmy Sullivan relocated to San Francisco to pursue his passion for design and the art of building. Jimmy has worked on a wide variety of projects in the design profession including retail, laboratory, affordable housing, schools and high end residential. Recently he was involved with the interiors and space planning for the offices of the new San Jose City Hall, designed by Richard Meier + Partners. Jimmy has also worked on the design of educational facilities in Marin County as well as residences in San Francisco, San Diego and Hawaii.

CitiZen Design Studio was originally founded with the intention of focusing on housing for survivors of domestic abuse. CitiZen has since expanded its focus into many areas of design and also continues its outreach work annually with non-profit orginizations in need.

"Architecture has a direct connection to how we live and function as a society. I feel it is imperative that we recognize the impact of good design and how it can shape our built environment. Every choice that designers make, from materials, to natural lighting, to the way a space breathes is critical in creating inviting and harmonious spaces."
